The Pafos Polis highway is a major road project in Cyprus that connects the city of Pafos with Polis, a coastal town on the northwestern part of the island. The highway stretches for approximately 35 kilometers. The proposed Project comprised the construction of a four (4) lane motorway stretching from Ayia Marinouda to Stroumbi. This was the first section of the main project, where the motorway will connect the city of Paphos to Polis Chrysochous.

ALA was awarded the relevant public procurement competition for the revision of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study and the preparation of an Appropriate Assessment Study for the proposed Project. The scope of the Study was to assess the potential environmental impacts from the construction and operation of the proposed Project.

The works included in the proposed Project comprised the four-lane road, 2 tunnels, 5 viaducts, and a roundabout, as well as the execution of necessary groundworks and the construction of supportive structures and systems, like drainage systems.

For the realization of the Study, ALA implemented a desk study, data collection and analysis, consultation with Competent Authorities, execution of site visits, onsite data collection and 24-hour noise data logging, mapping of environmental data and existing infrastructure as well as flora and fauna surveys.

For the subsections of the motorway located in close proximity to protected areas of the Natura 2000 network, an Appropriate Assessment Study was carried out.
