The LNG Import Terminal at Vasilikos, is the largest energy infrastructure project undertaken in Cyprus, with an estimated budget of over €300 million, which aims to improve, safeguard, and futureproof the energy mix of the island. This project will reduce the country’s dependence on imported oil and petroleum for its energy provision and enable the switch to cleaner fuels, whilst significantly reducing carbon emissions.
The Terminal is being developed by the international consortium of companies, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co Ltd, METRON S.A., and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group Co Ltd.
The LNG import terminal consists of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which will be moored offshore, and an onshore pipeline and gas receiving station. The FSRU has a storage capacity of 125,000 cubic meters of LNG and is equipped with regasification facilities, which will convert the LNG back into natural gas before it is transported to the onshore facilities.
The offshore facilities include a jetty for the FSRU, whereas the onshore facilities comprise of pipelines, a PRMS and operations room, an AGI, an internal road network and other supporting infrastructure.
ALA Planning Partnership are the Permitting Consultants of the project and are responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and approvals required for the construction and operation of the Import Terminal infrastructure.
To accomplish this, we work closely with the competent government agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders to obtain the necessary permits and consents and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This involves the preparation and submission of the permit and consent applications, coordinating with engineering and construction teams to ensure that permit requirements are met, and communicating with regulatory bodies to address any concerns or issues that may arise.
In addition, we are also responsible for ensuring that all required documentation and records are maintained and up to date. This includes maintaining records of permits and approvals, monitoring compliance with permit conditions, and ensuring that all necessary reports and documentation are submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
