The main objective of the Master Plan was the formulation of proposals for the promotion and development of the Amiantos Mine area, while preserving its history, ensuring the maximum economic benefit to the local communities and safeguarding the compatibility of the proposed uses with the ecological and social / historical environment of the area.
Within the framework of the Study, 3 alternative scenarios of development / utilization of the area were formulated, each of which included a series of proposed interventions. The optimal solution was the phased implementation of projects and interventions: (a) the completion of ongoing projects, (b) the promotion of additional projects that rely on government funding and (c) for subsequent phases, the implementation of projects that are based mainly on private initiative / funding depending on changing circumstances and developments.
Indicatively some of the projects proposed were: A Cable Car linking Amiantos with Troodos square and Troodos ski centre, Interactive Industrial Museum, Mine Development Office, Nature trails.
