Economic Development of The Famagusta District

The Study formulated a Strategic Plan for the Study Area which included projects and actions for the economic / tourist development of the Famagusta District which is not occupied by Turkish Forces. The Strategic Plan may also be used by the appropriate Local Authorities as a documentation tool to attract / utilize funding for the proposed development projects and actions.

The first part of the Study formed a diagnostic report of the Study Area containing a detailed analysis and assessment of the physical and socio-economic profile of the area, giving emphasis to the special characteristics of the area (tourist and rural character). In the second Phase of the Report a comprehensive development program which covered all aspects of the special and specific characteristics of the area (economic, social, environmental, etc.) was formulated. The development program included projects and actions of public and private initiative. The formulation of the development program took into account European and National Policies, as well as possible sources of funding (Government and European).
