Consultancy services for the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the greater urban area of the City of Limassol

On March 2nd 2017, the Public Works Department after an open tender procedure, awarded the consortium ALA Planning Partnership, TREDIT S.A. and PTV Group the contract for the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the greater urban area of Limassol, which includes the six municipalities and eleven communities of the wider urban area.


Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans aim to improve the economic, social and environmental aspects of transport. The purpose of the study is to investigate and evaluate through a detailed traffic model, a number of scenarios that will include specific measures, policies and plans to best serve the mobility needs of people and businesses. These measures, policies and plans will be accompanied by a specific promotion, a monitoring and evaluation plan and an implementation timetable with the objective to make Limassol a sustainable city by 2030.


The study will place emphasis on the following fields: public transport, traffic reduction, traffic management, traffic calming, pedestrianisations, reallocation of existing road space in favour of sustainable mobility modes, walking, cycling, accessibility with special attention on the needs of specific target groups (people with disabilities, the elderly, pupils and students etc), integrated policies for parking, freight logistics, road safety and the implementation of any appropriate innovative measures and policies for the transport planning of Limassol.
